Full roof refurbishment

Cheadle Heath
Introduction
Full roof refurb. Store never closed.
B&M’s Cheadle Heath store in Stockport needed its full 3,602m² roof brought back to a watertight condition — over a shop floor and garden centre that stayed open to the public throughout. RML refurbished the lot in a four-week programme, sequenced around trading hours. Roof sorted, not a single trading day lost.
The Challenge
The profiled metal roof at Cheadle Heath had reached the end of its coated life. Corrosion had taken hold at the sheet laps and around the fixings, earlier patch repairs and sealant were breaking down, and the rooflights had degraded to the point of clouding the shop floor below. B&M needed the full 3,602m² brought back to a watertight condition — with the store and the garden centre trading right through it.
The Solution
RML surveyed the whole roof first, then built the programme around the store’s trading hours rather than the other way round. Corroded laps were treated and failing fixings replaced, rooflights replaced and every penetration, flashing and detail re-dressed before the roof was primed and coated in phased bays — tracked against a marked-up roof plan so progress was visible bay by bay. Access-critical and disruptive work ran out of hours. Four weeks, 3,602m², store open every day.
